DT American Dream: From Assistant Manager to Director of Product & Purchasing

DT American Dream: From Assistant Manager to Director of Product & Purchasing

Soon after college, University of Maryland Eastern Shore-graduate Onye Agu needed a job. He applied to several local restaurant chains, and when he was offered an Assistant Manager role at District Taco Metro Center, he began his career without realizing where it would lead.

Onye consistently exceeded expectations in his role, and made a fantastic impression on the customers he met. His engaging personality and willingness to go the extra mile caught the attention of CEO Osiris Hoil. After a year and a half in his original role, Onye was promoted to General Manager of District Taco - Eastern Market, a brand new location.

After successfully overseeing the Eastern Market location for over a year, his talents were again recognized, and he was promoted to Regional Manager. Charged with five restaurants across the DMV, he continued proving his worth by breaking sales records and leading the company to open additional stores in the region. Given his track record, it’s not hard to guess he was promoted once again after just over a year to Senior Regional Manager, one of two people overseeing each of District Taco’s then-12 locations.

“Senior Regional Manager is a challenging role,” says Agu. “But nothing prepared me more for a lifelong career in the restaurant industry than working day-in and day-out, ensuring my staff was motivated and my customers were happy.”

Onye was Senior Regional Manager for under three years before being promoted onto District Taco’s executive team. For the past year, Onye has served as Director of Product and Purchasing in DT’s Falls Church Headquarters. and works directly with vendors and farms to ensure quality is never a question at District Taco.

Onye lives with wife Sara and (adorable) daughter Frances.

We would love you to join our team, and begin making a company-wide impact like Onye! For more information on DT Careers, check out districttaco.com/careers
